How Gambling`s Image Fuels Addiction

Once seen as a shady backroom vice, gambling has undergone a glossy transformation, especially online. Nowadays, gambling is marketed the same way as lifestyle brands and fashion houses. Gambling companies even sponsor famous sports teams and personalities.
Where gambling was once taboo, it has now entered the mainstream – often promoted as entertainment embraced by pop culture. Therein also lies the problem: gambling has become normal.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 1.2% of the adult population may have a problem with gambling. Other studies suggest a much higher rate.
To tackle gambling addiction, our CEO, Dr. Andreas Ditsche, recently interviewed behavioral expert Professor Dr. Mark Griffiths. The above video is a snippet from the interview, where Professor Griffiths explains how gambling has been normalized.
“Historically, it was a sin, then it became a vice, and now it’s a socially acceptable activity to do.”
Professor Mark Griffiths discusses gambling addiction.
